seem to find the inlet too small as well. I can only imagine that the Inlet exacerbates this issue since it has a smaller load capacity. of gear with me, and even then the Beach sits pretty low in the water. I'm 215 and usually carry about 10-15 lbs. or you're really tall, definitely go for the LT. One thing I'd say is that if you're over 200 lbs. I was in the same boat (heh) as you, and ended getting a refurb LT. So one thing I'd recommend is joining the ORU Owners group on FB - huge resource, and this is an often asked question. Whether that's worth the price difference is something only you can answer. The Bay is a better option if you want to get out for a whole day or a weekend trip, if you want to get into some less protected water, you want to develop some paddling skills, or if you want something with a little better performance. If you want something less expensive to explore calm, sheltered water for a couple hours at a time and you don't mind a kayak that's slow and won't go straight then the Inlet may be a good option. Essentially, you're comparing a standard recreational kayak to a standard day-touring kayak. The Inlet is 9'6" long and 30" wide while the Bay is 12'3" long and 25" wide the longer and narrower kayak is going to go faster and straighter with less effort, the shorter kayak will be more maneuverable (although a 12' kayak should still be incredibly maneuverable while still tracking reasonably well and <10' is usually too maneuverable).īut it's not just the dimensions that make a difference, the Inlet has a wide open cockpit with little storage space and no deck rigging or other safety features while the Bay has a smaller cockpit, a little more storage space, and some basic safety features like deck rigging and rudimentary bulkheads. I've never tried either kayak but there are some obvious and normal differences that can be compared easily. » Filter by Shorelines: Destination Questions & Trip Reports » Filter by News, Notices, & Announcements Beginner's Guide to Kayak Terminology - NRS.Original content recommended but feel free to post third party content as long as it isn't spam.įeel free to message the mods to add an event you wish to share with other redditors!Ĭheck out Whitewater for a bit more gnarl, or Sailing for that cool breeze, Canoeing for that gentle float.
